About this project

Switch the Room pairs real archival photographs from all-male rooms of power with AI-generated counterparts where every figure has been gender-reversed. The images are presented honestly — with notes on what the AI changed and where it struggled — as documented artifacts rather than seamless alternative facts.

The point is not that women would have made different decisions (though they might have). The point is that the rooms were built to exclude half the population, and that exclusion was a choice — one made by institutions, appointments, and social structures, not by nature.

Every "What Changed" note in this gallery tracks real milestones: who was actually the first woman appointed to each institution, who appointed her, and how long it took. The gap between the photograph and the breakthrough is not metaphorical. It is a number of years.
